A benchmark is a reference index or ETF — when TWR vs S&P 500 (or similar) makes sense.

A benchmark is a reference index or ETF you compare return against. Without one, “good return” is hard to judge.

Compare on the same scale — typically cumulative TWR versus the benchmark’s price change over the same period. Currency and composition should match what you actually hold.
